Every Monday, the open public bids for one trade in one state, with due dates and what closed recently. The numbers below are open notices.
Virginia paving bids close fast: 19 of 21 are due within 14 days
The story this week is timing. Virginia paving and site work has the shortest runway of the six pages we track. 90% of its 21 open notices close within 14 days, and the median is 8 days left. Janitorial is next at 70%, then HVAC at 55% and landscaping at 45%. Maryland HVAC is the slowest page at 25%.
Across all six pages there are 68 open notices, and state agencies buy 34 of them, the largest share by far. Little moved since the Oct 14 issue: five pages are unchanged in open notices, and Virginia HVAC is down by 1.
Worth knowing
- The Department of Conservation and Recreation has 4 open Virginia paving notices, the most of any buyer on that page, including parking lot and trail paving at Staunton River Battlefield State Park, due Oct 22.
- A City of Richmond slurry paving application contract ends Oct 22, 2026. Ended contracts are often rebid or extended, so ask the city's public works office what comes next.
- Virginia HVAC had no new notices this week. Three close on Oct 27: Department of Military Affairs, Department of Motor Vehicles in Alexandria, and corrective HVAC repairs for the City of Portsmouth.
- Maryland landscaping has a five-year grounds maintenance bid for Blue Heron Golf Course from the State of Maryland, due Oct 30. A matching notice from a Maryland county is due the same day.
- Virginia landscaping added 6 new notices this week, the most of any landscaping page, and the Virginia Department of Transportation has 5 of its 11 open notices.
